🎄Let’s Talk Christmas Outfits
When it comes to Christmas outfits for family photoshoots, there are endless choices to choose from. Whether you want you and your family to be in your cutest Christmas PJ’s or have a more formal photoshoot, there’s really no wrong way to go about it. But it’s always best to think of outfits that will match the concept of the setting, so your family photos can stand the test of time.
This year’s setup is giving the traditional childhood Christmas feeling whilst keeping the décor to a minimum. To me, the focus should always be on your family, not on a busy backdrop or little ones lost in a sea of props.
Below are some examples of colour pallets and outfits to inspire your choices for the day.

🎁 What to Wear for Your Christmas Mini Session
Planning outfits for your Christmas session doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little thought and coordination, you’ll have your family looking picture-perfect while still feeling like you. Here are a few handy tips to help you choose the right looks for your festive shoot:
- Coordinate, don’t match. Aim for outfits that complement each other rather than match exactly. Think coordinated colours, textures, and tones. You don’t need everyone in identical outfits — just make sure the overall look feels cohesive and balanced.
- Keep it simple. Less really is more when it comes to photos. Busy patterns, large logos, or overly bright colours can distract from what matters most: your family’s connection and expressions. Plain, solid colours or subtle textures work beautifully.
(That said, a touch of tartan can be charming and festive — just don’t go overboard!)

- Dress for the season. Layering in cozy seasonal pieces can add both style and texture to your photos. Consider:
- Woolly hats, scarves, or chunky knits for a warm winter vibe
- Matching Christmas PJs for a fun and relaxed look
- Festive tones like deep reds, greens, navies, and creams to complement the traditional setup
- Feel comfortable. Style is great — but comfort is everything, especially for little ones. Choose outfits that feel good to wear, don’t itch or pinch, and allow for movement. A happy, comfortable child is much easier to photograph!
- Don’t forget the shoes. Even if shoes aren’t the main focus, they can still make or break the look. Avoid trainers or anything too casual or clashing. Classic, festive, sparkly — or even barefoot — can work beautifully depending on your vibe.
- Think timeless. Trendy pieces can date your photos quickly. Instead, opt for classic styles that you’ll still love in years to come. Simple combos like jeans and a cream knit jumper, or a festive dress in a rich tone, never go out of style — and look beautiful in printed heirlooms.

✨I hope this guide has given you plenty of inspiration and answered any styling questions you had ahead of your Christmas photoshoot. But if you’re still feeling unsure or need a little extra help choosing the perfect outfits, don’t worry — I’m just a message away and always happy to help!
