Your family photos are precious
When you look back at these photos in years to come, I want you to remember the wonderful time you all had creating these memories. My style focuses on capturing each of your character & personalities, the love you all have for each other, all those candid moments we can turn into photos you can treasure forever.
I prefer outdoor family sessions, so there is lots of room for your children to run free and have fun. However, great photos can come out from both studio and outdoor sessions. It’s about creating a space for you and your little ones to feel comfortable interacting with one another and forgetting I’m even there to take your picture.
What does a family photoshoot look like?
My family sessions are fun and relaxed, focused on you and your family. When we have that initial conversation, we’ll have a chat about the location – if you already have somewhere in mind, great! If you’d rather leave the location to me, that’s also great! I love to scout for the perfect locations that represent the families I photograph, whether that’s a field, the woods, the beach or the studio.
These type of sessions usually take 1 to 2 hours, depending on location, so there is enough time for outfit changes, lots of play and a comfort break when needed. We will go at your pace to make everyone feel comfortable during your family photoshoot. I want everyone to join in so you can enjoy the experience together as a family.
It is perfectly normal for little ones to feel a bit apprehensive when meeting a stranger, never mind a stranger hiding behind a big camera constantly. During my sessions, there is absolutely no expectation for children to “perform”. They can take their time warming up whilst we chat and find a fun adventure to go on together; if they want to be in your arms all the time, then that is fine too – I always try to be extra silly all along so chances are they will be relaxed and smiling in no time.
These sessions are typically for parents and children, but it’s always great when grandparents and other family members like to get involved. There is no additional cost, the more the merrier!
Preparing for your family portraits
Before the session, I will send over a booking form and we will have a chat about how everything will unfold on the day. We’ll cover everything from location to styling and outfits for your photoshoot so the images we capture are ones you will cherish forever.
A few days before the session, I will send a gentle reminder which will give you the opportunity to start preparing for the day and ask any last minute questions too. On the day:
- Leave enough time to get ready and navigate traffic so you don’t end up rushing or stressing
- If possible, try to make sure everyone is rested – an extra nap can go a long way (that goes for adults too!)
- Bring your little ones favourite toy or comforter, sessions can quickly become overwhelming for young ones and having something familiar to hold can make a huge difference
- Plan something for after the session – ice cream, a toy, or a special outing can keep everyone motivated to keep going
